Chess Board Close-Up
Classes available for beginners through advanced players. Check out the options below!

Beginner
This program features 10 virtual chess classes delivered via Zoom, and designed for children 5 to 10 years of age who are new to chess.  It is an introductory class that shares the basics of piece movement, setting up the board, rules of the game, chess etiquette and simple strategies. Students receive basic information that will prepare them to challenge parents and friends, and there are lots of opportunities to play games with other students.

Intermediate
For children 5 to 13 years of age, who are familiar with the basics of piece movement and rules of the game. This is a 10 class virtual program delivered via Zoom. It is geared toward players rated 400-800, although a rating is not necessary for participation. Curriculum will include opening and endgame strategies, piece development and opportunities to play games with other students.

Advanced
Ten virtual chess classes delivered via Zoom, and designed for children 7 to 15 years of age who are ready to advance to in-depth checkmating combinations. Geared toward players with tournament experience rated 800-1200, although tournament experience/rating is not a requirement. Curriculum will include discussion of advanced endgame positions and review of Master Games. Lots of opportunities to play games with other students, followed by game analysis. Note: There is no class on November 26th.
