Class Description:
In this interactive class, participants will:
·Step-by-step instruction on making elderberry syrup using raw honey and simple ingredients.
· Discover the documented medicinal properties of elderberries.
· Discuss important safety considerations, including why elderberry syrup is not recommended for children under age 2 and raw honey should not be given to infants under 1.
· Explore natural methods for extending shelf life, such as refrigeration, alcohol additions, and proper bottling.
· Learn how to store and use the syrup effectively at home.
· Take home a jar of syrup made in class.
· Receive a detailed handout that includes the full recipe, safety notes, storage tips, and additional resources.
Student Participation Notes:
· Elderberries can stain clothing and skin. Please wear old, clean clothes and consider bringing kitchen gloves to protect your hands.
· The syrup mixture will be hot after simmering. Please follow all instructions carefully when handling hot liquids and allow time for it to cool before transferring to jars. You are also free to bring your own dish cloth or pot holder if it makes you more comfortable.
· There will be a cooling window after simmering the syrup. During this time, we will review the handout.
· If there is additional waiting time after reviewing the handout and addressing all questions, please consider bringing a book or light reading material to enjoy. Or consider connecting with other workshop participants.
· All supplies and equipment will be provided.

· If you have allergies to honey, pollen, or herbs, it is best not to attend this workshop.
· A brief clean-up session will follow the workshop—participants will help with wiping down workstations and safely disposing of used supplies.
