Ages:
Designated areas will are available for 2-5 and 5-12 year old users as well as the addition of an inclusive structure for all abilities (2-12 years).
No structure or play component (i.e., slides, swings, climbing apparatus, sliding poles, etc.) within the playground is intended/recommended for use by individuals over the age of 12 years nor adults.
Kids Castle Restoration/Rebuild Project:
Kids Castle reopened after the completion of Phase 1 in September 2013. The Save Kids Castle team is hard at work raising money for the completion of Phases 2 & 3. The plan is to complete all Phases within two years if all funding goals are met. Kids Castle is a community funded project that was built in 1997 without the use of any tax dollars. All major renovations of the Castle and the surrounding play areas over the past fifteen years have been accomplished through financial support from the community, volunteer work and in-kind donations of goods and services. Kids Castle has reached another milestone and is now in need of restoration and repairs. This project when completed will also include innovative play areas and structures that were inspired by Kids for Kids. To continue providing this wonderful and unique play area as a place where many cherished memories have been experienced, Kids Castle needs your support. History:
Kids Castle, located in Central Park, Doylestown PA is an eight story wooden playground structure designed & named by children of Doylestown Township through an art contest in 1996. On February 5, 1997, Kids Castle Committee, Township staff, residents and children of the community met with architect Bob Leathers of Leathers Associates, Ithaca, New York to work on refining the initial playground design. Thanks to the efforts of over three thousand dedicated volunteers and the generosity of numerous sponsors, Kids Castle became a reality on Sunday, June 22, 1997. In October 1996, the playground committee chaired by Jeff and Dawn Byers began the overwhelming task of overseeing the entire playground project. The committee raised over $200,000, recruited volunteers and acquisition countless tools, construction materials, tents, trailers, food service, and child care. This culminated in the monumental task of constructing the playground in a twelve day period! The call went out, and the community responded. Volunteers young and old came together to work side by side with the architectural staff to bring the children's vision of a dream playground come to life.Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm only. All groups must be pre-registered and check-in at the administration building upon arrival. $5 per child and 8:1 supervision ratio required. |
